Collaborative International Laboratory for Advanced Stellarator Divertors was funded by Helmholtz Association in Germany.

The Helmholtz International Laboratory for Advanced optimized Divertors in Stellarators (HILOADS) was selected for funding by the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers (HGF). This project is build to enhance the existing collaboration between the Stellarator Research Enterprise at UW Madison with the Auburn University, Max-Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Greifswald, hosting the W7-X stellarator, and the Institute for Energy and Climate Research at the Juelich Research Center. The focus is to foster innovative approaches for diverters as integrated system component in optimized stellarators. This activity will encompass advances in stellarator optimization from this perspectives as well as material and 3D component manufacturing to better design and implement the complex, 3D shaped diverters for stellarators.

A press release by the Max-Planck Society today was launched describing the project in a general sense (https://www.ipp.mpg.de/4753762/08_19).
